Month: January 2020

It’s Capricorn season and what does this mean for many of us?

Well, let’s take a look at Capricorn qualities first of all. Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign and so embodies the characteristics and attributes related to earthy matters.

Capricorn is particularly known for its resourcefulness, discipline and practicality. Many people, even watery characters who are known for veering more into the ethereal plane than the physical one, will feel the effects of Capricorn. If Capricorn features anywhere in your birth chart, you will know what I mean!

Check out your Capricorn placements! Get your free birth chart here.

Mars in Capricorn, for example, will usually denote someone who is willing to wait a long time to yield results. This is irrespective of other signs in their chart. They will be patient in their endeavours and keep their sights firmly set on the goal in their minds. Mars is energy and drive, so when it is paired with Capricorn, this energy becomes long-lasting and slow-burning like a candle that burns for three days at a time, as opposed to one which randomly blows itself out as soon as you pop it into your Himalayan Salt candle holder.

But what role does Capricorn play in the Tarot cards?

Capricorn in the Major Arcana: The Devil

Many of you may be surprised to learn that the card in the main Major Arcana that corresponds with Capricorn is The Devil.

In a way, this can be taken as a good thing for your average Capricorn who has earned a rather unfair reputation among zodiac signs as being the dull, boring stuck-in-the-mud person who lacks, say, the ethereal creativity of Pisces or the sociable genius of Gemini.

The Devil is one of the most intriguing cards of the Major Arcana and even one of the most feared. It’s not hard to see why. It usually depicts a naked man and woman bound by chains to a grinning beast with two horns. Not the most pleasant of images.

But the Devil represents temptation, lust and giving in to that ‘wild side’ which many people repress in their daily lives. It represents the temptations of the physical world which are oh so naughty but nice, and usually leave you ending up with feelings of regret if you cave in to them.

Likewise, Capricorn, while being a sign driven by success and ambition, also has a side to them which correlates with The Devil. Much is expected from a Capricorn, most of all by themselves – to succeed, to have status, to be the epitome of ambition. This is in direct conflict with their other side, their devilish side which whispers almost subconsciously for them to just throw away their responsibilities, to just ‘do whatever they feel like doing’ and to hell with status, success and all that jazz.

This is why you will find so many Sun in Capricorns feeling very un-Capricorn. Many struggle with responsibility and prefer not to acquire it; on the other hand, Capricorn can also be about loosening the chains that others – or themselves – have placed on their bodies. Like the two figures in The Devil card who are chained to the devilish goat, they can feel trapped and restricted in their positions and social status.

But as with the two figures who, if you look closely will see that the chains are not that tight and they can break free whenever they wish, Capricorn also has a choice. Do they remain trapped and bound in situations that make them unhappy? Or do they break free?

So, like The Devil card, Capricorn is often faced with a choice throughout their lives and much of it is to do with breaking free from social or personal obligation and exploring a side to themselves which is often buried or repressed.

Capricorn in the Minor Arcana: King of Pentacles

In the secondary Minor Arcana, Capricorn is represented by the King of Pentacles.

Earth signs correlate with the suit of pentacles in the Tarot. While we can say that Capricorn is also similar to the Page, Knight and Queen of Pentacles, it is the King who is closest to this Earth sign.

The King of Pentacles is the master of his suit. He represents the hard-working and determined sign of Capricorn, the slow and steady individual who is willing to work hard for years in order to achieve his goal. The King of Pentacles, like Capricorn, is someone who understands the power and benefits of focus. He is not easily-distracted like a Wand or driven by his emotions like a Cup. He is, instead, someone who understands that slow and steady wins the race. The Page, Knight and Queen still have some lessons to learn in relation to mastering this work ethic and dogged determination, which does not only apply to himself, but to his entire kingdom.

We could say that the King of Pentacles is like the evolved Capricorn who has mastered the skill of hard work and perseverance and who understands that in order to succeed, one must be willing to put in the effort.

As we continue into this Capricorn season, we can enjoy harnessing the Capricorn qualities of discipline, reason and hard work. At the same time, we can find a way to temper our own ‘devilish’ side with these qualities. Once we find a way to do so, we may find success on levels that we previously may not have even imagined.

Greetings, Earthlings,

It’s a nice slow week; Mercury is the only major planet this week that is making some moves. Communicator Mercury switches gears from Cardinal Earth sign Capricorn and enters Fixed Air sign Aquarius. This means that communication, travel, and all gadgets that rule those themes will take on the lighter tone of airy Aquarius.

Air signs are symbolized by Swords in the Tarot. They carry the themes of thinking, higher intelligence, justice, paperwork matters, words, and often communication in general. So a Swords card in the Tarot may be pointing you towards justice matters, emails, or things of this nature. But they can also represent communication forms.

When Mercury enters Aquarius this week on Thursday, your communication takes on these Sword like themes as well. This emphasizes clarity, paperwork, and words used in multiple kinds of communication.

Try our Free 3-Card Tarot reading yourself to see if any Swords are coming up. If they are, you are being pointed to a state of higher thinking or can expect to receive messages or emails very soon. A Daily Numerology reading helps too!

And that’s it, that’s all, folks. A nice quiet one just like we said. Do enjoy! It’s well-earned after a crazy holiday season.

If you were born anywhere between January 17th and January 23rd, you may have a hard time fully identifying with your Sun sign, whether it happens to be Capricorn or Aquarius. The reason for this is because you were born during the few days a month that are thought by some astrologers to include the cusp of two signs.

In other words, when a birthday falls near the astrological shift from one sign to another, that individual may experience personality traits that belong to both signs. If you were born on January 17th, you may technically be considered a Capricorn Sun, but you might find yourself just as interested in or connected to the Aquarius section of the horoscopes.

While the idea of a “cusp sign” is somewhat controversial in astrology, the fact remains that many people born near the cusp of two signs experience a connection to both signs. Certain specific traits are attributed to cusp signs as well.

Let’s dive right in and take a look at the traits that make the Capricorn/Aquarius cusp so unique.

The Capricorn/Aquarius Cusp

While it may seem like this cusp might just exist as a combination of these two individual signs, this cusp actually has its very own set of personality traits that exist separately from both Capricorn and Aquarius. Think about the art of combining colors – when you mix red and yellow, you get orange.

A Motivated Energy

This cusp is one of the more motivated and driven cusps that exist, stemming from the success-driven Capricorn and the revolutionary Aquarius. While a Capricorn may feel ambitious about achieving success, the Capricorn/Aquarius cusp derives its motivation from the thought of changing the world around them. Aquarius adds a sense of rebellion against the status quo and a desire to shake things up.

This cusp is concerned with making changes, and their drive stems from a sense of responsibility to their fellow human. There may also exist an element of spiritual drive or philosophical focus in your work, as you tend to look at things from a big-picture point of view. You want to understand the world, and you want to make it better.

Inevitable Success

This drive possessed by the Capricorn/Aquarius cusp may not come from a desire to be successful, but it tends to lead to material success and abundance. The fact is that you work hard at whatever you do, which will not go unrecognized. While your focus may rest on your vision for the world and the people in it, your energy inspires those around you and your innovative ideas can’t help but bring you success.

One reason for this seemingly inevitable success is your ability to maintain focus. You know how to keep your eye on the prize, whereas other signs may suffer from a short attention span. If you can maintain this drive and focus throughout your life, you will be able to accomplish anything you put your mind to.

The Conversationalist

This cusp derives great pleasure from intellectual conversations containing depth and honesty. The combination of Saturn, which rules Capricorn, and Uranus, which rules Aquarius, makes for a sense of both logic and mystery that lead you down a path of intrigue. You’re drawn towards life’s puzzles, and you enjoy trying to find the answers within the conversations you hold with others.

The Mystery-Seeker

Saturn is the planet of lessons, teaching us what we need to know in order to grow. Uranus, on the other hand, is a spontaneous, exciting planet that brings surprises and mystery into our lives. The combination of these two planets creates an air of curiosity within you. You seek understanding, knowledge, and wisdom in your daily life.

This combination may also indicate a very creative individual, perhaps someone who works through their desire to understand the world around them with the use of art and poetry. If you haven’t yet found your creative outlet, you may want to start trying out new mediums.

A Grounded Imagination

Aquarius is a naturally imaginative sign, while Capricorn is more practical and pragmatic. When these two energies come together, you’ll find an individual with grand ideas and the pragmatic skills to bring them to life.

If you can learn to harness and utilize your sense of imagination without letting yourself escape into a world of fantasy, you’ll be able to find real-world applications for your many incredible ideas.

Other positive personality traits include:

Negative traits include:

  • Judgmental
  • Nonchalant

Concluding Thoughts:

Every sign in existence possesses both positive and negative traits; learning about negative traits can help you foster and amplify the amazing qualities of your personality. While you may sometimes feel emotionally reserved or detached, knowing that about yourself can help you open up to loved ones when you feel safe enough to do so.

There are many wonderful qualities inherent to the Capricorn/Aquarius cusp, so embrace your unique personality and the many great things it may lead you to!

Aquarius is an Air sign so they bring intellectual curiosity to a relationship and gravitate towards people with an active imagination. As a Fixed sign, their personality is set and they pride themselves on speaking with integrity. Their positive demeanor is sometimes mistaken for flirting but they are just friendlier than most and very loving at heart.

Aquarians are known for their larger than life personalities – dating them can feel like going to Disneyland every day because they love to make things fun and exciting! Aquarius likes to have conversations to create relationships and feel comfortable with their partners so look for a first date in a place that is not too loud at first but has an option for dancing because they won’t miss an opportunity to dance the night away with you.

The sign of the Water-bearer likes to play just as much as they work. They are driven to help others and will never sacrifice their career for love (so don’t ask them to). Aquarius wants a partner who will support their goals and a relationship that allows both people to be who they want to be. They love people who are independent and willing to let them have their freedom.

About the Aquarius Zodiac Sign

Aquarius is associated with the 11th house of friendships so this part of life tends to get priority. They often spend just as much if not more time with their friends than their partner because they are able to foster such strong bonds that they lean on them to create many great things in society. This means you must be willing to let them have a social life and see the value that they see in those relationships.

Aquarius is known to be a big-picture person, willing to risk it all for a cause and work hard to help the downtrodden. They have to work on being sensitive to people who aren’t wired like them and see that each person’s purpose is unique to them so they don’t belittle people’s goals or seem arrogant in relationships.

The natural ruling planet for Aquarius is Uranus, so they tend to buck authority, start rebellious trends, and align with progressive ideas. In love this means, they may not follow the stereotypical ideas of a relationship buying flowers, having dinner each night, and celebrating each anniversary. But if you admire altruism and can forgo the notion that you have to be joined at the hip, they will inspire you to live a truly meaningful life.

Aquarius Personality: The Good & the Bad

The Aquarius zodiac sign is just like every astrology sign, meaning it has its good and its bad. Let’s go through a quick list:

Aquarius Strengths

Aquarians are…

  • Naturally inclined to be successful
  • Outside of the box thinkers
  • Strong leaders
  • Progressive and compassionate
  • Highly independent

Aquarius Weaknesses

Aquarians tend to be…

  • Overly optimistic/unrealistic
  • Spontaneous and unable to stick to plans
  • Lack of emotional intimacy
  • Overly self-reliant and distant in relationships

Most of the flack that Aquarius gets is that they are afraid to commit and this is often because they think they will have to choose between big lofty goals and stable relationships.

If they have some Earth signs in their birth chart (placements in Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn) this can help open them find it easier to commit. But even then, they may use that organizational and business savvy energy to further their big dreams to help society. Ultimately, they will have to know themselves if they want to find a partner that fits them.

Their affinity for brilliance will give them endless things to talk about and they will match each other in being highly social and playful.

Zodiac Signs Least Compatible With Aquarius

  • Taurus
  • Capricorn
  • Cancer
  • Scorpio

Taurus loves their routines and puts a lot of energy into making a nice home but Aquarius is constantly on the go and doesn’t spend time on home projects often. Aquarius will shapeshift to make their many ideas happen which makes the planning oriented Taurus uncomfortable. The friendly and outgoing Aquarius will not enjoy that Taurus likes just a few close friends.

The Capricorn is not inclined to be overly concerned with people they don’t know and like to take care of their family. Aquarius will give their last dollar to a stranger and take major financial risks. Capricorn wants to have a long term plan and stick to it but Aquarius need the freedom to try on ideas and throw them out if they aren’t keeping up with their ideals.

Cancer is a homebody who likes to spend lots of time with their partner. They crave love and affection which they will find little of in a relationship with an Aquarius who may seem to always want to be away from the house. Cancer is highly sensitive and needs partners who are attentive to their moods and needs. Aquarius is always positive and doesn’t get the need to retreat and process which the empathic Cancer needs often.

Scorpio is aggressive and has an alpha personality which can conflict with the bold and leader type qualities of the Aquarius. This relationship could heat up and fizzle out fast because while they share passion and intellect, the Scorpio requires closeness and emotional intimacy that the Aquarius is not inclined to take time to give.

Aquarius is open about what they want and they tend to be direct so take things at a pace you’re comfortable with. If you aren’t sure what their intentions are, just ask and they will clarify that for you. They also will love to show you off because they tend to be extravagant at parties.

Aquarius Woman in Love

  • Artistic
  • Spiritual
  • Compassionate

The Aquarius woman sees the world as her family and she will spend time paying attention to the world as if it were her backyard. She treats all children like her children and wants to stop suffering wherever it is found. She will seek to see the compassion in her partner and bond with them over that. If you write her poetry, she will appreciate it more than buying her things. Although she does love a nice accent or statement accessory to be fashionable.

Aquarian women are unconventional in that they don’t rely on their partner and don’t plan to. They will expect to have separate finances and be offended if you insist on paying for everything. Let them be the boss they were born to be and relish in the strength they possess.

Don’t take this information and throw out a relationship that feels like it has potential because your birth chart is much more than just your Sun sign. Our personality, our emotional needs, goals, and areas for learning are shaped by much more than our Sun sign and you may find you have more compatibility with someone when you compare charts. You also may find you just don’t jive with someone who has a compatible Sun sign because of this.

Ultimately, use compatibility as a way to understand yourself and your partner so that you can speak each other’s language. You can look to the planet of Mercury, for instance, to understand how each person communicates. If you’ve just started learning Tarot or are still considering picking up that first deck and find yourself overwhelmed, you’re not alone!

Tarot resources are abundant and it can be easy to feel exhausted by conflicting sources telling you what to do, so why not eliminate some of those possibilities by knowing what you might not want to do?

Today, let’s discuss 5 common beginner’s Tarot mistakes that people can make when learning and reading cards.

5 Common Tarot Beginner’s Mistakes:

1. Being hesitant to conduct readings when you’re “still learning.”

It’s true that some level of memorization and understanding of the cards is needed to be able to read them fluently – but it’s also true that no one is really ever “done learning” cards. While baseline levels of understanding the symbolism, history, and traditional interpretations behind each card are always helpful, there is also a lot of improvement that simply comes from practice.

Of course, if you’re very early within the stages of learning Tarot, it’s okay to take the meanings of some readings with less gravity and recognize that you may be wrong — but keep in mind that, on the other hand, anyone can always be wrong, regardless of their level of expertise!

Blocking yourself off from the practice of card readings because of a lack of confidence in your level of experience simply continues that cycle of inexperience. Don’t be afraid to try to read for some friends in a comfortable, judgment-free environment, where you can also receive healthy and constructive criticism.

2. Feeling as though you must follow Tarot’s old myths & traditions.

From being gifted your first deck to only using silk Tarot deck bags to who can and cannot touch your deck, there is no shortage of Tarot myths out there. Some feel hesitant to even reach for their first deck if it hasn’t been gifted to them simply because of the existing tradition, and some people can feel extremely cautious about who touches their deck.

The truth is, if you wish to follow an age-old Tarot custom and tradition, you’re more than welcome to!

Don’t want anyone but you to touch your decks? Enjoy covering your Tarot cards in beautiful silk? Do it!

Whatever may enhance your Tarot journey and empower your confidence and experience with card reading is always a wonderful thing to try for yourself.

However, your Tarot journey is foremost a very personal one, and it’s up to you to decide how much you would like to adhere to those myths and traditions. Ultimately, they are never something you should have to do or feel limited by.

3. Asking the wrong questions.

In-depth, specific, and thought-provoking Tarot readings come from in-depth, specific, and thought-provoking questions. If you find yourself constantly hitting roadblocks or leave readings feeling more confused than empowered and clear-headed, perhaps the questions that are being asked are misleading, worded funkily, or simply need to be replaced with something more helpful and effective.

Understanding how to ask the right questions can be just as important as reading the cards themselves.

4. Taking keywords & memorization too seriously.

Keywords and associations that come with learning Tarot cards can be incredibly helpful. For example, if you are learning how to remember the 3 of Swords and come across keywords like “heartbreak” and “pain” and find these easy to memorize, you are more likely to be able to use these words as a springboard to further understanding the Tarot spread or reading before you.

However, interpreting the artwork directly in front of you, relating each card to each other, and getting the big picture are goals when you’re reading too. If you limit your understanding of a card down to a few words, you may also be limiting the depth and complexity of your readings in the long-run. Don’t be afraid to reflect a little further on what each card might mean to you personally.

5. “Re-reading” or pulling cards again for the same question.

If you find yourself stumped or confused by a card in a spread, scratching your head and saying, “that doesn’t make sense,” don’t let the instinct to put the card back and pull again take over. If you truly wish to find immediate clarification, simply ask for a clarifying card, and pull again. If you are still confused, consider interpreting the surrounding cards first and coming back to the confusing card.

If, by the end of interpreting the spread as a whole, that card is still a giant, muddled cloud over your head, take a photo of the spread or write down each card to make note of the reading, and come back to it later. The truth is that sometimes we simply aren’t able to make sense of everything within a reading, just like how we cannot always make sense of every situation we encounter or immediately understand why, how, and when things are happening. The fault tends to lie within us rather than the card itself, so allow time to pass before questioning the validity of that card.

A Final Reminder

While learning Tarot can be an immensely gratifying journey with rewards like self-growth, insight, and an enhanced intuition granted to you along the way, it’s inevitable that mistakes will be made along the way.

Even while being aware of some of the common mistakes people make, you still may find yourself wanting to switch out a card or sticking within your comfort zone of memorized Tarot keywords – and that’s okay! Bumps existing in the road and you jumping over them can be a part of your journey too.

It’s a skill that you’ll pick up very easily but takes a lifetime to master.

The Meanings of the Cards

Reading playing cards is important to understanding the four suits in a deck of playing cards pertaining to a different area of your life and even the timing of events. The suit of hearts deal with emotional matters and may foretell events in the summertime.

Diamonds deal with money, material objects, the tangible, and when it comes to timing, they hint at the season of winter. Clubs point to friendships, relationships, matters that require action and springtime. Spades indicate a conflict or warning and resonate with the season of autumn.

  • Aces: New beginnings.
  • Twos: A choice needs to be made.
  • Threes: Things are falling into place.
  • Fours: Foundation and stability.
  • Fives: Be prepared for an important event about to happen.
  • Sixes: A lack of focus.
  • Sevens: Luck, this can be either good or bad, depending on the surrounding cards.
  • Eights: Fate, or destiny.
  • Nines: A conflict or decisions may be coming to a head.
  • Tens: Completion. endings, or fulfillment.
  • Jacks: Messages are coming your way.
  • Queens: Knowledge, awareness, enlightenment.
  • Kings: Confidence, self-assurance, ego.
  • The Joker: Some playing card readers include the joker and some do not when performing tarot with playing cards. Whether you choose to do so is entirely up to you. I recommend it. The joker means that something unexpected and unpredictable is about to happen. It cautions you, no matter what the rest of the reading revealed, things could change in heartbeat, so be prepared!

Now that you know the meaning of each suit and card, you need to apply your knowledge to interpret the message from reading the playing cards. Let’s use eights as an example. The eights mean fate or destiny. If you pulled the eight of hearts, it would mean something was fated in a relationship or your emotional destiny. However, if this was the eight of spades, then it could mean that a conflict or disagreement was destined to happen.

Fortune telling with playing cards takes a bit of thought and objectivity to put the interpretation together. The more you understand the tarot card meanings, the better you’ll be at seeing how they all fit together. Half of the art of a tarot card reading is storytelling.

You will develop the skill of reading playing cards, taking the message in the cards, and applying it to your life and the situation you are consulting the cards to answer.

The Layout of the Cards

When you tarot with playing cards, you’re going to lay them out in a pattern on a table or other flat surface. Your pattern is called a ‘spread’ or a ‘layout’. There are hundreds of different layouts to choose from. Most free tarot readings are done in a three-card spread.

You can use the same spreads for playing cards as you do for tarot, or you might want to use something different. For beginners, a simple place to start when using playing cards as tarot is to use a four-card spread.

Shuffle your cards, ask them your questions, lay the four cards out one by one face down, and read them left to right.

  • Card #1: This represents the main theme of your question.
  • Card #2: This card is showing you the advantages you’ve got working for you.
  • Card #3: The next card shows you the challenges, or perhaps what’s working against you.
  • Card #4. The final card reveals the potential outcome of your question.

Pay close attention to cards that repeat themselves in a spread. In the above spread, you’ve only used four cards. That means that if you get two of any card – two threes, two queens, two sevens – pay close attention. The numbers are trying to alert you and send a message.

Concluding Thoughts

You can tell your own future without having to be clairvoyant. With experience, you’ll start to become familiar with different combinations and layouts to master fortune-telling with playing cards. You’ll develop a real feel for what the cards are trying to reveal to you. Bear in mind that it’s not a quick fix.

While you’ll be able to learn to read the cards immediately, it takes time, patience, and wisdom to become adept at tarot with playing cards.

There are no hard and fast rules about reading your own cards. Do what feels comfortable and don’t get bogged down with details and thinking there is a perfect or correct interpretation of the tarot. Even the most experienced card readers will sometimes consult reputable professionals to get a second opinion. Approach the tarot with humility, respect, and the mindset that you will always learn something new with each reading.

Want to start a new project or venture? Put together new plans? Go over new ideas and take initiative? This may be the best time of the month to do it!

Don’t let this time each month pass by eventless. Make use of it every month, even if you don’t get to deal with anything else astrologically! It’s an easy way to take advantage of some helpful astrology.

If your Sun is in a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), you may find energy is highest for you to take action in a tangible way. You can be optimistic and enthusiastic, and can’t wait to take the initiative for what you want.

If your Sun is in an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), you may find you want to take action in practical ways, and can stick with what you begin. You can be less afraid of action and more willing to push forward.

If your Sun is in an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), you may find the ideas and plans you’re working on push you to act, and you can get excited by what you come up with. You can get out of your mind a little to take action.

If your Sun is in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), you may find your emotions drive you to act, and you can get out of just feeling and start moving. Your intuition can be strong, and help guide you with decisions and actions.

When the New Moon or Full Moon is in Your Sign

There are times when the Moon is in your sign, it’s not just any Moon, and it’s occurring with a New Moon or Full Moon. There are 1-2 New Moons or Full Moons in every sign every year, so you’ll experience 1-2 New Moons or Full Moons in your Sun sign a year.

When a New Moon is in your sign, this takes the energy and cranks it up about 100 notches! This is an amazing time for new beginnings, and you can feel pulled to do something new that’s a focus for the next 6-12 months. The New Moon in your sign is one of the times each year you should look forward to!

When a Full Moon is in your sign, this means the Moon is in your sign and the Sun is opposing. Full Moons correspond to culminations, so you can use the Full Moon in your sign to bring something to fruition, finish something big, and see the results of months of labor. This tends to be important, and can be somewhat emotional. This is a time of the year when you should carefully consider your actions and plans, and make sure to tend to yourself emotionally so you can handle whatever passes.

You don’t have to wait for specific New Moons to make use of new moon energy. You have the opportunity every month!

Make sure to follow the movement of the Moon, and see what you can do when the Moon is in your sign. Checking your daily horoscope can help too!

On August 29th, the planet of communication enters the most analytical sign of the zodiac. The speedy little planet Mercury is entering the sign of Virgo.

When the planet that affects our thoughts and speech transits an Earth sign, we can expect to begin to plan, talk about finances, and look for ways to fix things. In this case, we will be looking to troubleshoot the very ways in which we communicate with each other. Be prepared for comments about the nature of conversations such as improving upon tone, word choice, and knowing when to broach a topic or when to keep your mouth shut.

This can be fun because it’s like putting a microscope on the art of communication in our lives. You may find you can edit some writing you’ve done or finally hash out the plot in more detail. You will likely find yourself over-explaining the details of things so keep a lid on being too verbose.

As always, we want to figure out how to use the transits to our benefit by knowing the types of energy that will be available and preparing ourselves to use it in positive ways while dodging the potential pitfalls.

What to Watch Out for With Mercury In Virgo

Before forewarned that the planet of love, Venus, moved into Virgo on August 21st and the planet of passion, Mars, moved into Virgo on August 18th. To compound this neurotic energy, we also have the Sun in Virgo since the 23rd. With all these planets in this detail-oriented sign that has a compulsive need to fix things, we could become paranoid, obsessive-compulsive, or look for problems unnecessarily.

Don’t try to make everything perfect or obsess over what you are going to say. That means if something is said that throws you off, don’t over-analyze it.

Instead, just do something to relax and lighten up such as watch a funny movie, focus on some cleaning, or reorganise that closet that needs to be gone through. If you find yourself wondering what someone really meant when they said something or how your comments were taken, just work on letting it go. Obsessing over these things will frustrate you and to keep your vibes up, do something playful that requires all of your focus like rock climbing, taking a dance class, or making jewelry.

Don’t point out people’s flaws or be hypercritical. Because we are talking about talking, being that this is the planet of communication, you need to guard your words to speak positively in your relationships. You need to curb the urge to point out what you don’t like and direct your mind to compliment others. Remember, your relationships become negative when you say negative things and positive when you say positive things.

Words are powerful. Thinking and speaking positively about yourself will also help at this time.

How To Use Mercury in Virgo Energy

It’s not all gloom and doom by any means. We can really use this energy to map out our life plan and plan new projects that have many moving parts.

Perhaps it’s time to write down your 5-year plan and break it down into smaller goals. Perhaps it’s a good time to get together with good friends just to talk about your big dreams and come up with a fun plan of attack. Virgo energy is the ultimate planner and you may be able to really see how to create a map that will lead you to your desired destination.

Have you been wanting to explain yourself but tend to gloss over the things that are really important to you? Well, now you can express yourself with more specificity. Instead of saying, “I feel bad,” you can now articulate with more detail and say, “I feel bad because when I share my problems, you don’t sympathize with me, and you just respond by talking about your problems.” Obviously, that is just an example, but you can open up topics to talk about things that need to be discussed now and express yourself.

Virgo energy can help you make detailed lists of things you want to do, things you like about yourself, and things you want from others to feel dignified and fabulous. Capture this energy by allowing yourself to share your needs with kindness when the time feels right.

You can also make a list of ways you can personally improve your relationships by shifting your own energy. Perhaps add some specific daily habits that will keep your mind positive such as taking time to yourself for a little bit, unwinding before bed, or sipping your favorite tea on the porch to relax after work. Maybe even make a list of the nutrients and healthy foods you’d like to incorporate into your day or channel this energy into making a daily workout plan.

A rune is an intuition tool that helps you bypass the logic-based mind to access information from the flow of energy that exists between all things. The deductive reasoning we are used to using is helpful in certain areas of life and intuition can open us to new levels of emotional wellness, more instinctive decision making, and more meaningful experiences. When it comes to finding a lifestyle and career that really excites you, runes can certainly help. Even navigating our day to day lives can be aided by the use of this ancient tool.

We are entering a new decade and we can use this time to set ourselves up to begin with a positive direction. Using intuition helps us become more empowered to truly access our spiritual gifts and heal on many levels so we can enjoy life more and more. The intention which we set always makes a difference and when we decide to embrace a spiritual path, we will grow into that intention. We can also set our intention to use runes to help us open our own innate wisdom and unlock the secrets of the Universe that await us.

An Intuition-Enhancing Rune Ritual for 2020

Using runes once in a while can prove to be more confusing than helpful because you don’t have a working energetic bond with the runes. Using rune rituals will help you access more helpful and clear messages.

Since a ritual consists of a series of actions, you can think of the act of pulling a rune each day as the magic ingredient to accessing your intuition. This way, the runes will begin to open up more intuitive insights and keep you more in tune with the spiritual part of your consciousness. The more familiar you are with rune meanings, the quicker you will see the connections between the meanings and your life.

Each morning, sit with your journal and bag of rune stones. Ask for guidance for the day and pull out a single rune. Write down whatever impressions or ideas just seem to pop into your head when you look at the symbol, even if you don’t know what it means. Record what you feel the message of the rune has for you before looking up the meaning and then read what the traditional rune symbol means right here in our rune stone dictionary. Then, write down any more insights that come to mind.

Do not discount something that seems insignificant or unclear such as a color or even a letter. It may show up in your day in a way that will surprise you. If you feel like you don’t get any intuitive insights at first, keep performing the ritual, and soon you will start noticing your intuition begins to turn on.

In the evening, sit and read what you recorded in the morning. Write down anything significant or any connections between what you wrote down and what happened in your day. This will help you see your development and that you do actually have intuition.

Signs that Indicate Your Intuition is Opening

This rune ritual will help you start to see things before they happen. You may get an inkling of someone you will see, a type of event that you feel is going to happen, or just a feeling of how things will turn out.

Some of the signs that your intuition is opening will give you the motivation to keep doing your rune ritual. You will often see the same numbers or repeating number sequences when your intuition starts opening. You’ll also start to have more vivid dreams. Many people find they are more drawn to spending time relaxing by themselves as their intuition opens as well. Because it’s easiest to tap into our intuition when we are in a relaxed state, we may find ourselves avoiding loud crowded places or seeking new more relaxing activities. Additionally, many people’s bodies start to respond when the intuition opens. The body may start to reject certain foods that impede intuition to help you.

You will find that information starts to just flow easier as you journal about the runes. You will also find that you are able to trust that the information you receive is significant as you see the connections that your ritual reveals in your day-to-day life. You will start to develop a stronger sense of inner strength that you can rely on. You will find that it’s easier to sense what is good for you and what is not. You can also get a much better sense of people and their intentions. Ultimately, intuition can open you to many spiritual gifts including mediumship and the ability to help others with your clairvoyance. It can even come in handy when you’re trying to find a lost item or get information that helps you be prepared for something that you didn’t consciously know was coming.

Closing Thoughts…

Are you getting excited to make 2020 the year of enhanced intuition? Pairing your rune ritual with some other intuition tools can really kick your intuition into gear. Perhaps you will like using Tarot cards, enjoy intuition enhancing herbal teas, or will choose to book some 2020 readings with spiritual advisors.

The nice thing about doing your own free rune reading is that you access knowledge without paying for it and without even leaving home. Intuition helps us find peace with the difficulties we experience in life by giving life meaning and purpose. The more positive we feel, the stronger our intuition will stream through to us. Whatever you can do to keep yourself in a positive state will also enhance your intuition in 2020. Getting enough sleep, water, nutrients, and exercise as well as looking at ways to reduce your stress will greatly benefit your overall intuitive development.

If you’re brand new to runes or wanting to expand your knowledge about them, check out our many rune articles that are fun to read and cover many questions you may have. We even have a rune set you can order to start your decade off on a magical foot. Stepping into the future with this ritual is going to help you learn about energy and even how to manifest!

The Year 2020 is particularly potent for the Chinese Zodiac because it is the Year of the Rat. Every Rat year marks the beginning of a new twelve-year cycle and, as such, new beginnings are imminent, along with the changes that go with them.

What’s more, this is the Year of the Metal Rat.

Why is this significant?

Metal is one of the strongest elements of the five that feature in Chinese Astrology in the sense that it is hard, determined, forceful and radical. A person born under any sign of the zodiac will automatically be bestowed with a steely, unwavering strength if metal is their corresponding element.

Meanwhile, the Rat itself is a steely, determined and ambitious individual. Known for their cunning, incredible strategic talents and desire for success, we can surmise from both the metal element and the Rat’s influence that 2020 is going to be a year of radical change and enormous upheaval.

So how does this bode for each individual Chinese Zodiac sign? Read on to find out!

This is your year and it’s time to rejoice. When an individual’s year appears, it’s usually a sign that your good luck and fortune are on the rise. The energies of the Metal Rat are in conjunction with yours (especially if you yourself are a Metal Rat!) There’s a lot of golden opportunities and fortune coming your way, particularly if you are willing to put boundless energy into your endeavours. Your only warning is to ensure you don’t grow complacent and start taking your good fortune for granted as things could then swing in the other direction.

2020 is a time for new beginnings, especially in areas of work and career, Ox. The decisions you take this year will shape the next twelve years for you, so choose wisely. You have much to look forward to if you stay true to yourself and work hard for what you want. You need to do some soul-searching, asking yourself what it is you truly want as this foundation will mean the difference between success or disappointment.

Self-control is something you struggle with at times, Tiger, so you will be pleased to hear that control of yourself and your environment is very much on the agenda this year. This is a year about putting yourself first, but not in a selfish way. It’s time to let go of toxic people or situations that hold you back from reaching your true potential. The potential to shine bright is strong this year; go for it, in true Tiger fashion.

This year is mostly about continuing on from your previous goals, Rabbit, at least in the physical world. Your journey this year will appear to be more of a spiritual one. A spiritual awakening may be forthcoming and you may even experience a drastic change in priorities. This may unnerve you as you are not one to step outside your comfort zone; but if your instincts are pulling you towards this change, then it is best to go with the flow.

For such a dynamic sign, you may be intrigued to learn that 2020 ought to be a year of calm and peace for you, Dragon. Let’s call it the calm before the storm, as things are set to kick off for you further down this twelve-year cycle. This is a great year to focus on your health, activities and hobbies that you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to. A number of vacations seem likely.

A good year for love! 2020 ought to be a prosperous and fulfilling year in the realm of relationships, Snake, and you may find that a lot of problems which have been holding you back shall dissipate. Looking after your health is important this year so it may be time to implement a new exercise regime and explore various healthy, wholesome foods you can include in your diet.

Much of the changes you experience this year will revolve around yourself, Horse. It’s time to make a clean break of indulgence and toxic relationships. You are also encouraged to harness your spirit of adventure and use it to its fullest extent (while being safe at the same time!) Dare to dream and travel to exotic locations that you have not visited before to make the most of this.

A powerful year of transformation for you, Goat. Large and small, change lurks around the corner on both an internal and external level. You have to be on your guard so you do not veer off into escapism if things become a little overwhelming. Meditation and yoga are both highly recommended practices for you to perform regularly throughout the year as they will keep you grounded and positive.

This is a strong year for sociability for you, Monkey. New people and connections you meet can set the groundwork for you for the next twelve years, so go forth with enthusiasm and positivity. However, watch out for people who may try and swindle you. You are usually excellent at spotting a con artist but this year you might become overly relaxed. Avoid get-rich-quick schemes like the plague.

This will be an emotional rollercoaster for you, Rooster, but it also looks set to be a successful one too. Saving money should be relatively easy for you, but you need to watch out for spontaneous or impulsive actions which could leave you with feelings of regret further down the line. Be careful of your investments this year and ensure to think things through with a workable plan.

A positive year for you overall, Dog, and you may feel more compelled and fired up to make change in both your environment and on a global scale. Keeping your mind busy and your actions productive is a sure-fire path to success for you. Your open mind will come in very handy in 2020 and you may meet people who are on a very similar wavelength to you who can help bring out the best in you.

Take a look back: Chinese Zodiac for 2019: Year of the Pig

Breaking free of restrictions is very much on the agenda for you in 2020, Pig. This looks set to be a year of great spiritual growth for you and could even lead to a completely different change of direction for your life path.

Trust your instincts and have faith in your own abilities; your intuition will not lead you astray. Ensure to take good care of your health too and set out a workable plan for your diet which includes both healthy and tasty things.

It’s time to prepare yourself, because this January brings an emotional rollercoaster in the form of an astrological transit.

On January 10th, we will experience not only a Full Moon in Cancer, but the first lunar eclipse of the year. The energy will be intense due to both of these factors; and learning about what to expect can help us mentally and emotionally prepare, so that the whirling energy doesn’t catch us off guard quite as drastically. Heightened emotions, along with increased intuition and inner tension are just a few things we can look forward to.

The Meaning of a Lunar Eclipse

During any Full Moon, the Sun and Moon rest opposite of each other, which has a unique and interesting effect that depends on the sign that each luminary is in at the time. During this eclipse, the Moon is in sensitive Cancer, while the sun is in pragmatic Capricorn.

This relationship between the Sun and the Moon bring your personal life into focus—your home, your family, your friends, your partner. It might seem as though different, important parts of your world are clashing during this time. The oppositional energy also means that you may feel torn between two aspects of your world. You may feel internal tension or pressures from outside of yourself, which can lead to anxiety and emotional exhaustion.

The lunar eclipse intensifies this energy. It is useful to prepare yourself to try to remain open to the possibilities, as these challenges might be making room for new opportunity or more harmonious situations.

The Moon is closely connected to our emotional realm, and where the Moon rests in the zodiac affects our collective emotional mood. Furthermore, the correlation between the Moon and our emotions is especially strong during a lunar eclipse, meaning that the Moon affects us even more intensely. Because the Moon is in Cancer during this eclipse—a Water sign that ruled by the Moon and is emotionally sensitive—we may experience overwhelming feelings or mood swings.

It is possible that you’ll be especially sensitive regarding the opinion of others or even their aura. You will pick up on other people’s emotions more easily during this time, and if you’re naturally empathetic, you may end up absorbing some of these emotions.

What this Lunar Eclipse in Cancer Will Bring

Emotional Intensity

This does, however, include some benefits, one of which is increased intuition. Cancer is an intuitive sign to begin with, and the Moon guides our intuition. With the amplified energy from the lunar eclipse, this is truly the time to trust yourself and follow your gut feelings. If you get an intuitive vision or notion, it is best to follow that today. Accordingly, if you suspect that someone is not being honest with you, you may be right; however, think practically before you confront them, as your emotions can get the better if you’re not careful during this eclipse.

Saturn’s Influence

Another influential aspect of this eclipse is that the Moon is in opposition to Saturn, the planet ruling Capricorn.

Saturn is stern, the planet that brings us challenges and teaches us the lessons we need to learn in life. There is an oppressive, restrictive energy when Saturn is in an influential transit, and this eclipse may bring feelings of authoritarian oppression. You may face challenges with your boss, superior, or another authority figure; try to remember to act with conscious thought and reasoning over emotion.

This influence can cause loneliness, sadness, and boredom. While the emotions and even events that transpire during this time may be challenging, Saturn does place these situations in our lives for a reason, so there may be a silver lining to look out for.

Mercury’s Influence

During this eclipse, Mercury, the planet of communication and travel, is in conjunction with Sun and opposition with the Moon. There will be a focus on communication during this eclipse, especially due to the heightened emotions you’ll likely experience. If you can remember to communicate openly, honestly, and with love and compassion, you’ll be able to make it through this energetic time without much upset.

If you find communication with others challenging, try to take a step back and examine the situation or the conversation from an objective point of view. However, don’t let people take advantage of you or bully you; remember to stand up for yourself when the situation calls for it.

Pluto’s Influence

This lunar eclipse is also in opposition to Pluto, the planet of secrets and power. Power dynamics within relationships may shift or struggle for change. Due to drastic mood swings, conflicts or arguments can arise; however, these moods do include romance and passion, so it’s not entirely negative.

Relationships will feel a sense of tension under this influence, with weak relationships potentially dissolving.

Preparing Yourself Emotionally

While this may seem like a negative influence, the fact is that if you emotionally prepare yourself, you may be able to sail through this eclipse unscathed. And while the energy is intense, it isn’t all bad. We need the sour flavors to appreciate the delicious taste of the sweet desserts.

Remember practices like compassion, gratitude, and positive affirmations to get you through this emotionally charged transit. If you remember to share love with yourself and those around you, you may be surprised about the outcome of this eclipse.

Happy 2020!

As we’re focused on a new year, we can think about what the planets are going to do during 2020. What signs will they enter and when, how are those eclipses going to hit us, and of course – what about those confounded retrogrades?!

Never fear, and let this article serve as a planner for the 2020 retrogrades!

What is Retrograde?

Let’s first look at what retrograde means. A planet is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward in the zodiac from our view here on Earth. It’s not actually moving backward (no planet actually moves backwards!). It just LOOKS that way (appearance is everything!). The Sun and Moon are the only planets that don’t go retrograde.

The normal motion for planets through the zodiac is forward, so when they’re retrograde and moving backward, the energy of the planet can get thrown off. Some are worse than others (looking at you, Mercury retrograde!).

When Planets Go Retrograde

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron retrograde every year for months at a time, so their retrogrades tend to be more subtle. You’ll usually feel the impact if your Sun, Moon, or Rising sign is ruled by that planet, it’s occurring in your Sun, Moon, or Rising sign, or if it’s doing some hard stuff to your chart. Then it gets wonky!

Venus retrogrades for about 1½ months every 1½ years, and Mars retrogrades for about 2 – 2½ months every 2 – 2½ years. Both will retrograde in 2020 (oh joy!). Mercury retrogrades 34 times each year for about 3 weeks at a time. Mercury, Venus, and Mars are considered personal planets, so you can feel their retrogrades much more personally.

When retrograde, Pluto can give us a break from the transforming; Neptune can bring out some major fog; Uranus can slow change and increase rebellion; Saturn can bring karma and extra restrictions; Jupiter can slow expansion to find blocks; Chiron can increase reflection and focus on blocks to healing; Mars can elevate aggression and hostility; Venus can bring out relationship issues – and Mercury can throw off everything!

2020 Retrogrades: The Complete Guide

Alright, enough mumbo-jumbo, let’s get down to business!

Here is a list of the 2020 planetary retrogrades, in order by when they begin:

Mercury Retrograde: February 16 – March 9, 2020

Starts at: 12° Pisces

Ends at: 28° Aquarius

Signs most impacted: Gemini, Virgo, Aquarius, Pisces

The first Mercury retrograde 2020 starts in Water sign Pisces and goes back into Air sign Aquarius March 4th to end the retrograde. With the start in Pisces, watch for energy to be extra dreamy, imaginative, and inspiring, yet also extra foggy, delusional at times, and we may be grasping for compassion and a softer touch. With the end in Aquarius, watch for super rebellious energy and out-of-the-box thinking (which can be good or bad!).

Pluto Retrograde: April 25 – October 4, 2020

Starts at: 25° Capricorn

Ends at: 22° Capricorn

Signs most impacted: Scorpio, Capricorn

We’ve had this retrograde for the last decade or so since Pluto has been in Earth sign Capricorn. Each year, this is a period where we can focus on the major transformations that have been worked on, and dig deeper to discover what we’ve been missing that’ll help push us further. Make sure to check out this article about the impact of Pluto retrograde in Capricorn for each sign!

Saturn Retrograde: May 11 – September 29, 2020

Starts at: 1° Aquarius

Ends at: 25° Capricorn

Signs most impacted: Capricorn, Aquarius

Saturn starts moving into Aquarius in March (the 21st), and starts the retrograde in this sign, which can bring attention to our hopes and dreams and how we’re going to bring some reality to them to make them actually happen. Saturn goes back into Capricorn July 1st and ends the retrograde in Capricorn, and this can be a time when work slows as we absorb some of the final lessons Saturn in Capricorn has to give us before officially leaving this sign in December 2020.

Venus Retrograde: May 13, – June 25, 2020

Starts at: 21° Gemini

Ends at: 5° Gemini

Signs most impacted: Taurus, Gemini, Libra

There was no Venus retrograde in 2019, so 2020 comes with one! In Air sign Gemini, a sign of communication and activity, this retrograde can focus on the way we communicate with one another, get our point across, engage with each other and our communities, and how the lines of communication are doing in relationships. Some may get something important off of their chest, and things that need to be said can be said. But be careful with your words – they may get you in trouble they can’t get you out of!

Jupiter Retrograde: May 14 – September 12, 2020

Starts at: 27° Capricorn

Ends at: 17° Capricorn

Signs most impacted: Sagittarius, Capricorn

Jupiter retrogrades entirely in Capricorn, and is in this Earth sign until December 2020. It’s a Capricorn year, for better or worse! The Jupiter retrograde in Capricorn can slow down the pursuit of opportunities for goals and ambitions, and you can focus on trying to eliminate issues that have gotten in the way. Jupiter links up with Pluto during this retrograde in late June, so dig deeper to find the issues and work on issues that have been a long-time problem.

Mercury Retrograde: June 18 – July 12, 2020

Starts at: 14° Cancer

Ends at: 5° Cancer

Signs most impacted: Gemini, Cancer, Virgo

The second Mercury retrograde for 2020 comes in Water sign Cancer. This is the sign ruling emotions, so emotions can be extra heightened during this Mercury retrograde. Try to find some comfort and give yourself and others emotional support. The Cancer energy is at odds with all of the Capricorn energy next year, so it’s a tough one (especially with a Cancer solar eclipse on June 21st and Capricorn lunar eclipse July 5th!). You may want to pay attention to your dreams as they can be strong with Mercury retrograde in Cancer.

Neptune Retrograde: June 23 – November 28, 2020

Starts at: 20° Pisces

Ends at: 18° Pisces

Signs most impacted: Pisces

And this is the foggy retrograde! Neptune is pretty notorious for the foggy energy, and that is even more the case while retrograde in home sign Pisces. Brace for clouded judgment, blurred lines, and nonexistent boundaries! This is always a good time to work on those boundaries, and to get into your subconscious mind (ruled by Neptune) to sort through old issues or karmic baggage. You may also benefit from a spiritual or metaphysical focus, and strengthening your intuition.

Chiron Retrograde: July 11 – December 15, 2020

Starts at: 9° Aries

Ends at: 4° Aries

Signs most impacted: Aries

Chiron is the asteroid of wounds and healing, and the period when Chiron is retrograde can be a good time for spiritual growth and reflection. In Aries, you may want to better understand yourself, your identity, and what you connect with on a deeply personal level, and how past issues have impacted your ability to be yourself and have good self-esteem and a sense of self.

Uranus Retrograde: August 15 – January 14, 2021

Starts at: 10° Taurus

Ends at: 6° Taurus

Signs most impacted: Taurus, Aquarius

Uranus is the planet of change, so while retrograde, that change can slow down and we get a break. Sometimes this can cause restlessness if there’s a change you really really really want to make, but you should try to take it as a breather from the wonkiness! If you feel extra stressed during Uranus retrograde, try some visualization to work it out.

Mars Retrograde: September 9 – November 13, 2020

Starts at: 28° Aries

Ends at: 15° Aries

Signs most impacted: Aries

Like Venus, there was no Mars retrograde in 2019, so 2020 comes with one! And this one occurs in Aries, the sign Mars naturally rules – so it’s extra fiery, extra aggressive, and extra impulsive! Try not to get caught up in the passionate energy when you get upset (micro-breaks can help), and allow for the slowing of energy to get some control over yourself and life. If someone or something really gets under your skin, view it as an opportunity to understand why and work it out.

Mercury Retrograde: October 13 – November 3, 2020

Starts at: 11° Scorpio

Ends at: 25° Libra

Signs most impacted: Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio

The final Mercury retrograde for 2020 starts in Water sign Scorpio and moves into Air sign Libra October 27th, where it ends the retrograde. While in Scorpio, revisit past challenging issues and enter the shadows so you can move forward with less heavy baggage since this is the last opportunity to do so (Mercury won’t retrograde in Scorpio again for some years). While in Libra, work on relationship issues, improve connections, and try to restore balance (after the wonky year!).

Parting Thoughts

So, there you have it! The full list of retrogrades for this new year. And a quick note – we actually started 2020 with Uranus retrograde! Only until January 10, so not much longer, and Uranus starts moving forward quickly so we can get on with the dreams we’re thinking of for a new year.

Maneuver the 2020 retrogrades carefully, keep an eye on your daily horoscope, and make it a great year!

Did you think your birthstone was your only lucky stone? Think again! For the most part, birthstones are marketed by jewelers to sell those particular gems!

These 12 stones are associated with the 12 astrological sun signs of the zodiac. There is more than one stone for each sign though, depending on different traditions and cultures. Here are your lucky stones and crystals for your zodiac sign

    Aries Zodiac Stones

As an Aries, certain things make you who you are. This includes the following,

    • Your motto is “I Am.”
    • Aries is a fire element.
    • Aries is a cardinal quality.
    • Aries traditionally rules the first house of the zodiac.
    • Aries’ positive traits are passion, purpose, and confidence.
    • Aries’ challenging traits are self-centredness, impatience, and a quick-temper.

A lucky birthstone for an Aries is the beautiful fire opal. This translucent stone has an opalescent glow that contains flashes of flame colors. It harnesses the qualities of the fire element and gives them an emotional connection, awakening your passion for life.

This stone can also help in developing your sense of self-expression and creativity. Fire opal helps you become more optimistic in your life and promotes confidence when you’re socializing.

    Taurus Zodiac Stones

The Taurus zodiac sign is represented by a few defining features,

    • Your motto is “I Have.”
    • Taurus is an earth element.
    • Taurus is a fixed quality.
    • Taurus traditionally rules the second house of the zodiac.
    • Taurus’ positive traits are sensuality, compassion, and reliability.
    • Taurus’ challenging traits are over-sensitivity, stubbornness, and laziness.

A lucky zodiac stone for Taurus is chrysocolla. It’s called the ‘stone of communication,’ and its beautiful, near-turquoise color blends the energies of the beautiful, near-turquoise color of the heart chakra and the throat chakra, so you learn to speak from the heart. It helps you overcome your anxieties and is a powerful ally when you feel low or despondent.

Using chrysocolla will help you determine when to speak and when to listen, and will assist you with finding truth, both in your own words and in those of others.

    Gemini Zodiac Stones

A natural thinker, Gemini are defined by the following traits,

    • Your motto is “I Think.”
    • Gemini is an air element.
    • Gemini is a mutable quality.
    • Gemini traditionally rules the third house of the zodiac.
    • Gemini’s positive traits are communication, flexibility, amiability.
    • Gemini’s challenging traits are restlessness, superficiality and unreliability.

One of the best zodiac birthstone alternatives for Gemini is the wonderful moss agate. It reflects the colors of the air element with its dappled milky inclusions. This isn’t a high energy stone, and many Geminis would benefit from this quality to ground their nervous energy or restless mind. This stone helps to bring peace of mind, and to calm frazzled emotions.

Moss agate is a heart chakra stone, and it helps Geminis—and others, for that matter—to learn to love themselves. It also encourages Geminis to not be too controlling in a relationship or to allow someone to have too much control over them.

    Cancer Zodiac Stones

A lucky stone for this zodiac sign can mean a lot. The Cancer sign is,

    • Your motto is “I Feel.”
    • Cancer is a water element.
    • Cancer is a cardinal quality.
    • Cancer traditionally rules the fourth house of the zodiac.
    • Cancer’s positive traits are understanding, nurturing, and loyalty.
    • Cancer’s challenging traits are indecision, moodiness, and melancholy.

We adore carnelian as an alternative zodiac birthstone for Cancer. It may seem like a contradiction, with Cancer being a water sign and carnelian being a fire element stone, but sometimes Cancers need that extra push so that they can find their courage and motivation.

Cancers are so sensitive and empathic that they frequently lose themselves in their water qualities, making them moody and melancholic. A good dose of root chakra energy to get them motivated again is often all it takes to light a spark under them and bring them back to life.

    Leo Zodiac Stones

The Leo sign is defined by their nature. The following bullet points are quick summary of that.

    • Your motto is “I Will.”
    • Leo is a fire element.
    • Leo is a fixed quality.
    • Leo traditionally rules the fifth house of the zodiac.
    • Leo’s positive traits are gregariousness, warm-heartedness, and optimism.
    • Leo’s challenging traits are conceit, narcissism, and jealousy.

For an alternative zodiac birthstone for Leo, you can’t go wrong with garnet. Even though it is frequently associated with the month of January, garnet is a fire element stone, and echoes Leo’s warm and gregarious nature. Leos have a lot of vitality and natural energy, and garnet harnesses those traits, directing them down more positive avenues.

Leos often set themselves up to fail by expecting everyone to be as warm and sincere as they are, and garnet helps when it comes to accepting that not everyone lives up to Leo’s high standards.

    Virgo Zodiac Stones

The practical Virgo sign consists of certain traits related to his or her nature,

    • Your motto is “I Analyze.”
    • Virgo is an earth element.
    • Virgo is a mutable quality.
    • Virgo traditionally rules the sixth house of the zodiac.
    • Virgo’s positive traits are sincerity, patience, and practicality.
    • Virgo’s challenging traits are criticism, aloofness, and perfectionism.

Amethyst is often attributed to other months, but this gentle purple stone is my favorite alternative zodiac birthstone for Virgo sign. It’s not an accident that the Pope’s ring has an amethyst stone! This is a very spiritual and soothing stone, and most Virgos need that—they’re known for being high-strung!

Ruled by Mercury, Virgos usually have a lot of mental activity going on in their heads, and amethyst helps to calm that down, so they can actually hear what their spirit is trying to tell them. Amethyst is a crown chakra stone and promotes connection with spirit guides and ascended masters.

    Libra Zodiac Stones

The libra sign does not know what he or she wants but strives for that balance.

    • Your motto is “I Balance.”
    • Libra is an air element.
    • Libra is a cardinal quality.
    • Libra traditionally rules the seventh house of the zodiac.
    • Libra’s positive traits are diplomacy, appreciation, and cordiality.
    • Libra’s negative traits are indulgence, indecisiveness, and carelessness.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better alternative zodiac birthstone for Libra than the soothing green jasper. It’s not unusual for Libras to get attached to someone, and when this attachment becomes imbalanced or unhealthy, green jasper pours a relaxing energy into the situation. It restores rationality to the thinking process and helps to calm ruffled emotions.

Although all jaspers are connected to the root chakra, green jasper also works with the heart chakra, replacing attachment with acceptance, bringing harmony to unbalanced emotions and feelings.

    Scorpio Zodiac Stones

    • Your motto is “I Desire.”
    • Scorpio is a water element.
    • Scorpio is a fixed quality.
    • Scorpio traditionally rules the eighth house of the zodiac.
    • Scorpio’s positive traits are passion, charisma, and loyalty.
    • Scorpio’s challenging traits are possessiveness, pride, and obstinacy.

Malachite is a wonderful alternative birthstone for Scorpio. Its calming green swirls and soft texture are soothing, something that Scorpio often needs due to having such an intense and complex nature. Malachite is another heart chakra stone, and teaches the difference between passion and possessiveness, between ardor and anger, and between loving someone and dominating them.

Malachite also is a powerful ally when it comes to breaking habits—something that Scorpio might need more than other signs due to the magnitude and depth of their feelings.

    Sagittarius Zodiac Stones

The Sagittarius is complex, but here is a quick overview.

    • Your motto is “I Perceive.”
    • Sagittarius is a fire element.
    • Sagittarius is a mutable quality.
    • Sagittarius traditionally rules the ninth house of the zodiac.
    • Sagittarius’ positive traits are philosophical outlook, intellectuality, and lightheartedness.
    • Sagittarius’ challenging traits are superficiality, restlessness, and distraction.

As an alternative zodiac birthstone for Sagittarius, obsidian is a great choice—particularly mahogany obsidian. This stone is actually a form of glass, born from lava cooling into a solid form. Sagittarius is known for being naturally thoughtful and inquisitive, and this stone mirrors those qualities beautifully.

It stimulates thought and even helps to develop spiritual awareness and psychic insight. If you’re still seeking to find out the meaning of life and the purpose of your incarnation, obsidian is a great tool to have by your side.

    Capricorn Zodiac Stones

The Capricorn sign consists of the following,

    • Your motto is “I Use.”
    • Capricorn is an earth element.
    • Capricorn is a cardinal quality.
    • Capricorn traditionally rules the tenth house of the zodiac.
    • Capricorn’s positive traits are stability, security, reliability.
    • Capricorn’s negative traits are inflexibility, stubbornness, and unfeeling.

Clear quartz crystal is one of our favorite stones, and its icy clarity makes it an excellent alternative zodiac birthstone for Capricorn. Known for their cool demeanor, dislike of open displays of emotion, and their adherence to tradition and detail, Capricorns will find clear quartz to be their perfect match.

This crystal comes in a myriad of shapes, terminations, clusters, and markings and can be programmed for nearly any purpose. Quartz is the stone to reach for when you’ve got a specific goal in mind — and anyone who loves a calculating Capricorn will know how goal-oriented they are!

    Aquarius Zodiac Stones

The Aquarius sign is defined by a few things,

    • Your motto is “I Know.”
    • Aquarius is an air element.
    • Aquarius is a fixed quality.
    • Aquarius traditionally rules the eleventh house of the zodiac.
    • Aquarius’ positive traits are intelligence, openness, and humanitarianism.
    • Aquarius’ challenging traits are unpredictability, unconventionality, and aloofness.

Silver is the mineral totem of the Aquarius zodiac sign, and there’s no better stone masquerading as silver than pyrite—also called ‘iron pyrite,’ or ‘fool’s gold.’ Many Aquarians are drawn to the field of technology, and one of the qualities of pyrite is to filter out environmental toxins, such as those from computer monitors or other electronic devices.

Pyrite also guards against being fooled, and Aquarians pride themselves on their powers of discernment and their keen observation skills. Pyrite also lifts the mood, and a low mood does happen when Aquarians feel that society has disappointed them.

    Pisces Zodiac Stones

A quick overview the Pisces sign,

    • Your motto is “I Believe.”
    • Pisces is a water element.
    • Pisces is a mutable quality.
    • Pisces traditionally rules the twelfth house of the zodiac.
    • Pisces’ positive traits are intuitiveness, creativity, and spirituality.
    • Pisces’ challenging traits are escapism, delusion, and dependence.

Another one of my favorite stones is the stone that works as an alternative zodiac birthstone for Pisces; the beautiful turquoise. This shouldn’t be confused with dyed howlite, which some unscrupulous vendors will sell as turquoise—and it’s interesting because delusion is one of the issues that some Pisces struggle with.

The color of this stone resonates with Pisces’ watery element. Turquoise is a good luck stone, but it also lifts despondent moods and soothes panic, something that Pisces may be prone to experiencing. It also stimulates the throat chakra, so that wisdom and understanding might easily be shared with others.

Birth signs and stones are connected. With that said don’t feel stuck with just one and try an alternative like those talked about here. Learn more about your astrology sign today.
